types of land

 In Tamil literature, five types of land are explained. These are the 

1. Kurinji (mountainous region), 
2. Mullai (forest region), 
3. Marutham (agricultural region), 
4. Neithal (coastal region) and 
5. Palai (desert region). 

Various deities are designated as the patron gods of these regions in Sangam literature. According to these texts, Murugan is the deity of the Kurinji region
