Gracing Brahma Creator of Four Vedas
Once, Brahma visited Lord Murugan. Murugan requested Brahma to enlighten him about the mystic ―Omkara‖ or ―Pranavaartha‖. Brahma told him that He, Brahma himself was the ―Omkara‖.
This made Murugan angry. Putting Brahma in bondage, he took himself the role of creator. For this purpose, he took his abode in Tirumalai Hills as Lord Venkatachalapati.
Lord Muruga punished Lord Brahma for his ignorance of the meaning of the Pranava mantra, by a hard knock on his vortex with His fist and then imprisoned him. After this, the creation came to a stand still becoz Brahma was imprisoned. So Lord Murugan assumed the creation duties of Lord Brahma. And most i,[osrtant point to be noted here is, at this stage, Valli being Murugan's Kriya Shakthi, assumed the role of his Consort - thus empowering him for the process of creation. (there are few more interesting aspects of the story which Iam not elaborating here)
At the request of his father, he released Brahma, heeding to the prayers of the Devas.

Dead Made Alive
The fierce battle was fought in various Brahmandas between asuras and devas.
- Skanda destroyed all of Surapadma's army and brought his own entire army back to life.
- The lonely Surapadma was advised by his mother Maya to get the Sudhamandara hill from across the ocean.
- Once the hill was brought, by the very contact of its breeze, all the dead warriors including Simhamukha, Agnimukha and Bhanukopa came back to life as if from sleep.
- The battle fought fiercely for five days came to nought. The devas were nonplussed.
- Skanda then used Pasupatastra and destroyed all the warriors in one stroke.
36
Sashti is the day that Lord Muruga defeated the demon Soorapadman. When the devas could not tolerate the evil doings of this demon, they approached the younger son of Lord Shiva and Parvati for his assistance. He fought Soorapadman for six days, at the end of which the Lord vanquished the asura. He threw his weapon at him and split Soorapadman into two halves. One half became a peacock, which he took as his Vahana. The other became a rooster and was transformed into his banner.

The devas rejoiced—they praised the Lord and prayed to him for six days. Devotees usually narrate the Kanda Sashti Kavacham during this period. Whoever fasts and prays to Lord Muruga for the six days of Kanda Sashti is believed to receive Muruga's blessings. Those who are unable to fast all day can eat once a day or twice a day during this period depending on their health, age and will.
Devotees believe that regular chanting of this song causes the predicaments of life to be resolved and that chanting the full song 36 times a day brings wealth.
