Murugan: The Kali Yuga Varada
Varada means one who gives boon. kaliyugavarada means one who fulfil all the wishes of devotees in the kaliyuga( Now we are in kaliyuga). This song in praise of the God Murugan was composed by Tamil poet, teacher, and patriot Periyasaami Thooran (1908-1987). “Kali Yuga Varadan” is another name for Murugan, as the presiding deity of the current dark age, Kali Yuga.

Muslims / Buddhist / Christian Worship / More
It is interesting to note that Muslims too offer prayers to Murugan
at this place, though not at the sanctum sanctorum as the Hindus do
to the Diety of Lord Subhramanya. The Muslims offer their special
prayers at a special niche set in the wall at the back of the
sanctum sanctorum. Muslims call the Lord as Palani Baba
http://www.palanitemples.com/
In contrast to the Murugan of South India--a purely Tamil God,
in Sri Lanka He is revered by Tamil Hindus and Sinhala Buddhists,
who both possess lore on Murugan and His abode at Kataragama.

Sri Subrahmanya Bhujangam by Sri Adi Sankara
When a chronic disease affected Adi Sankara, Lord Shiva came in his dream and advised him to go to Tiruchendur. While standing before the deity of Muruga at Tiruchendur, the seer felt a powerful light radiating from the idol. Marveling at the beauty of the Lord and admiring his infinite qualities, the great Acharya composed Subramanya Bhujangam, a set of outstanding prayer. http://www.kaumaram.com/text_new/bhujangam_e.html
